How can Pakistan overcome Power Shortage?

Ijaz Tareen's picture
As we all know Pakistan is in dire straits regarding its demand and supply of Power, so the obvious question is how can it overcome it.

Here are a few suggestions for the Govt.

1. One Window operation for the Licences & approvals and i mean one window which would grant licence in 24 hrs to companies with complete requirements.
2. A clear list of documentation required for approvals.
3. The fee of 500,000 Rs for processing of application reduced to 50,000.

When Passion Impedes Purpose

Ijaz Tareen's picture

Most of the professionals I know would agree with me that passion is a necessary ingredient for success as an entrepreneur or C-level executive. While I have always been a champion of passion as a key success metric, I have recently witnessed a few instances of passion impeding purpose, which in turn hinders success. As I have observed this situation on more than a few occasions over the years, it has been my experience that passion only becomes a barrier to success when it is misunderstood and/or misapplied.

Defending Dictatorship : Pakistanis and their Experience of Democracy.

Ijaz Tareen's picture
A military dictatorship is a military dictatorship, and a democracy is a democracy. And the latter is always automatically better than the former. It is safer to agree with this statement and to look at every particular complex political situation through the lens of this cliché than to risk having one's liberal-democratic credentials questioned. But as a friend of mine once remarked, "All arguments for democracy in Pakistan are theoretical.

Heard the new PM on TV, a well written speach, had to be corrected twice by the Party Co-Chairman, but we will ignore that for the time being.

Two points that i feel need elaboration are:

The Power of Personal Branding

Ijaz Tareen's picture

With as much as 80% of a corporation’s net value being comprised of its brand equity it’s no wonder that almost 1.5 trillion dollars was spent in 2006 on corporate branding initiatives. While most professionals readily understand the need to build brand equity at the corporate level or for products, services, intellectual property, etc., very few understand the substantial benefits that are created from increasing their personal brand equity.

ROZ , FATA & Haripur NWFP.

Ijaz Tareen's picture

Nice to read that US Deputy Secretary John Negroponte , has mentioned that ROZ(Recenstruction Opportunity Zones) are finially in the Senate.

ROZ are being intiated for the devolopment of 2 area's in Pakistan, FATA & for the Earth Quake Zone.

Where should they start the ROZ will be the most important factor for this incentive to be fruitful.

Fata as we all know is in a war like situation and till the time that it settles down ROZ will be a risky venture over there.
